On Thursday 11th July, a group of Ukrainians invited volunteers, council representatives and host families to a dinner to express their deep gratitude for their dedication and support over the last two years. With the unstoppable energy of Sarah Graham and Ira Kryvorukova, the Hilltops community was able to showcase how much has been achieved over the last years. The Ukrainians treated their British friends to delicious Ukrainian cuisine, entertained them with a fun quiz and inspired them with speeches. It was a joy to feel a part of such a brave and kind community!
Ballinger Memorial Hall was absolutely buzzing with around a hundred people celebrating each other’s strength, courage, and loving nature. The evening ended on a lovely note when the whole community sung together. Ukrainians performed a beautiful folk song “Chervona Kalyna” followed by the Ukrainian national anthem. It was such a touching moment with many tears of sadness and compassion being shed. The British friends also received a little gift as a memento of the evening.
“Thank you” is not enough to express the gratitude for all the help, care and life-changing experiences the Ukrainians have been fortunate to receive from their British friends. The evening helped everyone to feel the warmth, kindness and care that words cannot express.
