Three Years of War, Resilience and Hope

  • Post category:Information

On the 28th of February, Hilltop Ukrainian Support Community gathered to mark the third anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. It was wonderful to see some many British people amongst the attendees, many of these people wholeheartedly and selflessly supported Ukrainian families for the last three years. Overall, two hundred people came together to cherish Ukrainian traditions, culture and the beauty of its land. As a community we also remembered the losses the country has endured. Everyone had a moment to reflect by the poster of a map of Ukraine featuring family photos of Ukrainians who belongs to the community. On a separate display, there were also personal photos portraying the terrible destructions of buildings and homes from Ukrainian hometowns.
Ukrainian nation is full of talents. We were privileged to witness poetry readings and songs by the youngest members of our community who performed as a part of the choir of St Mary’s Ukrainian school based in Amersham. Together we sang Ukrainian folk songs and the Ukrainian national anthem. The event also featured a presentation by Stefania foundation who is raising funds to provide equipment for Ukrainian hospitals.
Despite the evening being emotionally difficult for many, the atmosphere was uplifting as everyone was surrounded by friends and family. We would like to thank Buckinghamshire Council whose support made this event possible and ensured that Ukrainians felt welcomed despite emerging difficult political developments for the country.
